I have 100 copies of
the The
Estranged-Entranced 7" finished that I'll be sending with the band for
the last week and a half of their tour. I'll be getting copies sent out
to distros when the rest of the covers arrive next week. So far all but
around 100 copies of the first pressing are spoken for. I probably
won't be repressing until the end of the summer, so if you'd like
copies for your distro get in touch soon.
Monday, June 09, 2008
I got the vinyl for the
Estranged-Entranced
7" today. The covers and inserts should be here in the next week and a
half, just in time for the band to come through Austin on tour. I'll
post more when it's finished.
Monday, June 02,
2008
The test pressings for
The
Estranged-Entranced 7" have been approved and should be getting pressed
sometime in the next week. Also, the cover artwork has been sent off to
the printer and the finished product should hopefully be here in the
next couple of weeks, just in time for The Estranged to play here in
Austin. They are currently on tour with the Red Dons (also from
Portland). Check the band's MySpace page for tour dates.

The Estranged test
pressings finally
arrived today and sound great. I'll be getting the band there copies
soon, and once they give me approval, be getting the vinyl pressed.
I've also got the artwork ready to go and should be sending that off
soon to get the covers printed soon. It's looking like an early June
release date right now.

I got an e-mail from
Golden today letting
me know that the lacquers have been cut for The
Estranged-Entranced/Vilified 7" and sent to get plated. I’m
hoping to have test pressing within the next week and a half.
I’ll let you know more soon.
Also, both the first pressings of the Dangerloves and Sleepwalkers RIP
7"s are now officially over 50% gone. If you want copies of these for
your distro better act quick, ’cause they’re going
fast.
Tuesday, March 25, 2008
I got the cover art for
The
Estranged-Entranced 7" today. You can preview it "Releases" section on
the label website. I should also be getting test pressings back for
this in two or three weeks if all goes well. More on this soon.
Also, the Dangerloves-Easy 7" is going fast. I’ve already
sent
almost half of the pressing off in the three weeks since it’s
been out.
Friday, February
29, 2008
The covers for the
Dangerloves 7" arrived
today. I'll be sending copies off to the band and some of the distros
over the next few days or so. If you're interested in getting copies
for your distro, email me at deadideas@gmail.com for details.
Also, I've sent the recordings for The Estranged 7" off to Golden to
get cut. There is about a 4-5 week wait there right now, so if all goes
well I should be getting test pressings around the middle of April.
More on this as it happens.
Tuesday,
February 19, 2008
I got the recordings
for The
Estranged-Entranced/Villified 7" today and it sounds great! I'll
probably be sending it off in a couple weeks, after the Dangerloves 7"
is out and I've made a bit of the money invested in that back. I should
also be getting the artwork for this soon. If all goes well, this could
be done as soon as early May.
In other news, I should be getting the covers for the Dangerloves 7"
sometime in the next week, so be on the lookout for that soon. Also,
I've been talking with the guys from Storm The Tower about getting
started on the limited pressing of their LP. This could be getting
started as soon as the end of March.
Wednesday,
January 30, 2008
I received the artwork
for the Dangerloves 7" today. It's pretty close to the rough version I
posted before. I'm waiting on a couple of quotes from printers and
should be getting it sent off in the next week or so. If all goes well,
it should be out by the end of February. I'll post more as it comes
along.
Also, I've been told that Coldbringer will be recording for their
upcoming 7"s soon, and The Estranged have recorded for their 7" and the
recording just needs to be mastered. Check out The Estranged's debut 7"
on Black Water, which just came out.
Monday,
December 31, 2007
Last night I got a
preview of the cover art for the Dangerloves-Easy 7". Here it is:

Hopefully I will be getting the finished artwork in the next week or so
and have this out by the end of January. I'll post more as the details
come together.

Sleepwalkers RIP Review
In MRR!
Here it is:
"SLEEPWALKERS R.I.P.-"Play Our Sound" EP
Portland punk! It's got that dark Northwest sound for sure, and it's
actual punk! Featuring ex-members of THE TRIGGERS playing
straight-ahead and snarly, with snotty girl vocals, doomy guitars, and
clattering drums. It's so much better than anything I've had to listen
to so far...I think you might like it if you were into, say, THE BAGS,
or just good-time bad-time punk rock. The lyrics are smart and mean
too. (LG)"
Also made two top 10 lists!

It's been a while since my last post and I've got some exciting things
in the works around here.
First, after much delay, I've been told that the cover artwork for the
Dangerloves-"Easy" 7" is in the works, and I'll be receiving it soon
hopefully. I'll let you know when it arrivers and I get it sent off to
the printer.
Next, I've just agreed to do a 7" for the Portland band The Estranged.
For those of you not familiar with them, The Estranged is the three
core members of now defunct Portland band Remains Of The Day playing
more of a post-punk style similar to Mission of Burma or Wire. Their
debut 7" should be out on Black Water next week, and they'll also have
a split 7" (with Portland's Autistic Youth) and a song on an upcoming
Portland compilation 7" (also featuring Sleepwalker RIP) in the near
future. I'll let you know more as the details get worked out.
Also, it looks like I'll be helping my friends in local Austin band
Storm The Tower posthumously release their LP at some point. 10 new
songs, and their best (and unfortunately final) recordings. It will
probably be a split release between me and some of the band members.
More on this later.
Friday,
August 24, 2007
The covers and inserts
for the Sleepwalkers RIP 7" arrived Tuesday, 5
minutes before I had to leave for the airport, so it's officially
finished. I will be giving the band their copies today for their show
tonight. Also Bistro Distro and Black Water will have copies soon. I'll
be sending off a bunch more copies to other distros when I get back
next week.

The vinyl
for both the Dangerloves and Sleepwalkers RIP 7"s arrived
today. I've been promised that the covers and inserts for the
Sleepwalkers RIP 7" will be here by Monday. It's looking like the
Dangerloves artwork won't make it here until after I leave town, so
look for it to be done in early September.
Tuesday, August 14, 2007
I got a call from the pressing plant this morning saying that the vinyl
for both the Dangerloves and Sleepwalkers RIP are done and have been
shipped. It should be here by Monday at the latest (just in time for me
to leave town Tuesday). The Sleepwalkers RIP covers and inserts should
also be here any day now. I'll be bringing the band copies of the
Sleepwalkers RIP 7" with me for them to sell at their show on the 24th
in Portland and their shows in the Bay Area at the end of the month.
Also, the Dangerloves artwork should be here soon. If it makes it here
before I leave town, the 7" will be out on August 30th. If it doesn't
the it will be out mid-September.
Wednesday, August 01, 2007
I've been given approval for the Sleepwalkers RIP test pressings and
we've worked out the last of the details for the cover art. I'll be
getting everything sent off in the next couple of days and hopefully
I'll have everything done on this one in the next week or two. I'll be
bringing the bands copies to them when I go to Portland in a few weeks.
I think they might be having a record release show while I'm there.
I'll put up a post when it's finished.
Dangerloves have also approved their test pressings and I'll be getting
the vinyl pressed for that soon. They've been having some snags with
getting the artwork together, since Beav was on tour with Fucked Up for
a month and Mark and Mary Anne just left to tour the west coast with
the Bayonettes. If they can get me the cover art within a couple of
days of when they get back, I might be able to have this out by August
20th. If not then it'll be out in early September.
Also, Coldbringer should be going into the studio soon to record 3 new
7"s, one of them for DeadIdeas. More on that later
Tuesday, July 24, 2007
The Sleepwalkers RIP test pressings arrived today. They sound good to me. I'll get the band copies sent off tomorrow and they should have them by this weekend. If they're happy with them, I should have vinyl within the next week and a half or so.
Friday, July 20, 2007
Here's a glimpse at what the Sleepwalkers RIP cover will look like:
I should be getting test pressings for this within the next few days.
More on this as it comes together.
Wednesday, July 11, 2007
I got an e-mail from Golden yesterday saying that the Sleepwalkers RIP
7" has cut and sent to get plated. That means that the pressing plant
should have the plates by Friday and hopefullly I'll have test
pressings by sometime next week.
Also Dangerloves should be letting me know if they're happy with the
test pressing for there record sometime this week. There is a delay
with the cover art, so It's looking like the record won't be finished
until early August.
Friday, June 22, 2007
The
test pressings for the Dangerloves 7" came today. They sound good to
me. I'll be sending the band their copies shortly and once they approve
them it should only be a couple of weeks before the record is out.
Also, the Sleepwalkers RIP 7" is at the mastering plant now and I
should be getting test pressings in a few weeks. It's looking like it
should be done around mid-August.
Friday, June 08, 2007
I got the recordings for the Sleepwalkers RIP 7" yesterday and the songs are great. I fact it was a tough decision to pick the 3 songs for the record. After several listens I've decided on Play Our Sound b/w Get Out While You Can/Death By Broken Heart. I'll be sending it off shortly to get mastered and hopefully I will be getting test pressings in about 4-5 weeks.
Tuesday, May 29, 2007
I just got an email the other day from Golden letting me know that the Dangerloves 7" has been mastered and that the pressing plant should have it soon. Hopefully the test pressings will be here in the next week or two.
Tuesday, May 08, 2007
The vinyl for the Coldbringer repress showed up this afternoon and I spent a few hours stuffing records. I'll be sending the band and some distro copies off this week. If you'd like to get some copies for you distro, let me know.
Wednesday, April 25, 2007
I
got the Dangerloves
recordings today and sent the master copy off to get the vinyl part of
the project started. There will be three songs on the record: Easy b/w
Deja Vu and Home. These songs are great, as are the songs for the other
couple of 7"s. I should be getting test pressings back in about four
weeks. More on this later.
Next, after talking with John Golden about remastering the Coldbringer
12" I've decided not to remaster it, so the repress should be available
within a couple of weeks. 500 copies on red vinyl with regular printed
LP jackets. Distros that are interested getting some copies get in
touch.
Also, the Sleepwalkers RIP recording is still waiting to be mixed down,
but this should be getting done in a couple of weeks or so. In the
meantime, check out the rough versions of a couple of the songs on
their MySpace page here.
Tuesday, March 27, 2007
I
just got word that I will be
doing a 3 song single for Sleepwalkers RIP from Portland. For those
that aren't familiar with them, Sleepwalkers RIP are a somewhat new
band featuring Candy and Justyn from the Triggers, Mary from
Coldbringer and the Del Toros and Fernando from Run For Your Fucking
Life. they are in the process of recording now and I should be getting
the recording in the near future. I should have this done by June.
In other news, Dangerloves have decided on the songs for their upcoming
7" and I should be getting the recording any day now. Check out "Easy"
from the 7" on the their MySpace page. Hoping to have this done by May.
Also the Coldbringer repress is still in the works. Look for it around
May or June.
Wednesday, February 28, 2007
Dangerloves
have finished mixing the songs for their 3 upcoming 7"s and are now
figuring out what songs will go on which records, so I should be
getting the master copy soon. More on this once I get the master copy
from the band.
In other news, I got the test pressings from the Coldbringer repress
last week and there's a good chance that I'll have to have it
remastered. I'm waitng to hear what the band thinks on this.
Thursday, February 1, 2007
I sent the plates off to the pressing plant and the artwork off to the printer yesterday for the Coldbringer repress. Hopefully this will be done quickly. I'll post more when I hear back from these places.
Monday, January 22, 2007
Dangerloves
will be going into
the studio to record for their upcoming 7"s on February 9th-11th.
They'll be recording with Chris Hegge, who's responsible for recording
some great records for bands like Fucked Up, Career Suicide and The
Bayonettes. I'll be releasing 2-3 of the songs from this session. Can't
wait to hear the recordings.
Also I will finally be getting the Coldbringer repress sent off in the
next week or so. It's been delayed due to the fact that I have to move
across town and I haven't had a shipping address that I can use (only
the PO Box). I'm hoping to have these done soon. Coldbringer is
planning on doing some West Coast shows in the near future and maybe
going to Europe this summer.
I've also been talking with a couple of bands about doing 7"s sometime
in the not too distant future. More on that as it pans out.
Monday, December 18, 2006
I'm happy to say that the next release for DeadIdeas will be a single for Dangerloves from Toronto. Dangerloves are powerpop band with female vocals featuring members of the Bayonettes, Urban Blight and Career Suicide. They are planning on recording for three singles in January, the other two for Fashionable Idiots Records and What We Do Is Secret Records. If all goes well, I should have this out by this coming spring.
In other news, I'm still waiting for a few details to get worked out with the Coldbringer repress. Hopefully I'll be getting that worked out in the next week or two and we'll see copies early next year.
Sunday, November 12, 2006
I will hopefully be sending the order off for this sometime this week. There will 500 more on red vinyl this time. I'm also doing standard LP jackets for all future pressing of this record (including this one). In other news it looks like we've worked out a deal to have Sabotage Records in Germany re-release the record in Europe. I've also got a couple of possible new releases in the works, but more on those as things become more definite.
Friday, September 01, 2006
The Coldbringer 12" is almost sold out, but don't worry. I plan on repressing it in the near future. If you still haven't picked a copy up, you can get them from Ebullition, Hardcore Holocaust, Brickwall, Bistro Distro and a few other small distros in the US, Sabotage in Germany, Burning Sensation in the Netherlands, and Allman in Japan.
Friday, August 04, 2006
I got the covers for this today and have started to assemble copies of it to send to distros. Brickwall, Bistro Distro and Hardcore Holocaust have copies already. I'll be sending Ebullition copies on Monday as well as some of the copies that are going to Europe and Japan. Then I leave Tuesday to go up to Pointless fest in Philly. I'll have copies for sale at the Hardcore Holocaust/ World Burns To Death merch table. Come say hi and pick a copy up.
Tuesday, August 01, 2006
Coldbringer have their copies of the 12" now and they are having a record release show on August 17th in Portland at the Ranch. I should have covers for the rest of the copies sometime between this Friday and Monday and will try to get as many copies out to distros as I can before I leave town for three weeks on Tuesday.
Friday, July 28, 2006
The Coldbringer covers are finally finished being printed. They'll be getting shipped here on the 31st and will arrive here sometime between the 4th and 8th. Here's a preview of what they look like:
Can't wait for them to get here. I'll let you know when they do.
Sunday, July 23, 2006
There have been a couple of small setbacks with the covers, but they should be getting finished any day now and hopefully shipped sometime this coming week So if everything goes as planned this should be out in the next week and a half to two weeks. I've got everything else ready to go. Keep an eye out for bulletins anouncing the release.
Thursday, June 29, 2006
I got a call today from the band and they've got everything done layoutwise. It will be getting printed over the next week or so and then shipped to Austin. I'll let you know when they're ready to ship to distros soon.
Thursday, June 15, 2006
I got a call from the pressing plant this morning saying that the vinyl for the Coldbringer 12" has been redone with new center labels. I should have it by tomorrow. I had the pressing plant send 20 copies to the band, and if they arrive by Tuesday the 20th, they might have copies with a limited cover for sale at their show with J Church. The layout for the real covers should be done within the next week and the covers will hopefully be done in the next couple of weeks. I'll post more as it come together.
Tuesday, May 30, 2006
I got a preview of the cover artwork today and it looks really great. It was drawn by Lydia Crumbley know for her great artwork for such bands as Signal Lost, From Ashes Rise, Midnight and Harum Scarum. I'll post pictures once all of the layout is done. In other news, the vinyl came last week, but apparently the label art got fucked up in the process of e-mailing it to the plant, so I have to send the artwork again on CD-R and ship all of the vinyl back to get the labels redone. More on this as it comes along.
Tuesday, May 23, 2006
Coldbringer vinyl has been pressed and will be here tomorrow, but the covers won't be ready until late June. Thanks to everyone who stopped by and said hello while I was on tour with Storm The Tower and those of you who came down to Chaos In Tejas. I also should be getting a preview of the cover art sometime soon. I'll try and post a picture when I get it.
Monday, April 24, 2006
Coldbringer has given me the OK to go ahead and get the vinyl pressed. I placed the order today and should have the vinyl in about 2 weeks. As for the covers, the layout is in the process of being done, and if all goes well they should be done by May 6th. If they aren't done by then it will be late June before they get finished, as the person who's printing them will be on tour for 5 weeks. Also, I will be selling merch for local Austin band Storm The Tower on their upcoming 2 week tour of the Eastern US from May 2nd to 16th, getting back just in time for Chaos In Tejas here. If you have any questions while I'm away, it might take a bit to get back to you.
Tuesday, April 18, 2006
Coldbinger test pressings have finally arrived. They came in late today. I'll be sending the band copies out first thing tomorrow. From what I can tell they sound good, but my stereo is fucked up right now and I can't listen to anything very loud. I'll bring a copy down tonight when I spin records and see how it sounds. I'll probably bring a copy to some other places tomorrow too, just to check how it sounds on different equipment. If the band and I agree that it sounds good, I'll be sending in the order to have it pressed soon, maybe early next week.
April 08, 2006
Due to a case of miscommunication, the laquers for the Coldbringer 12" got sent off to the plating plant without any notice of where to send the plates to. After contacting the pressing plant wondering where my test pressing were, they called the plating plant and had the plating done. Word is that I should have the test pressing early next week. I'll be sending the band their copies immediately, and hopefully, with approval from the band, I'll be giving the go ahead to the pressing plant by the end of next week. If all goes well I should have the vinyl within 2 weeks of approval. I've also been told that the cover art is almost ready and that once everything is ready to go to print, it will be about a week before I'll have the covers. If all goes smoothly I'm looking at an early May release.
March 21, 2006
I just got a message from Golden saying that the Coldbringer 12" has been cut earlier than planned and sent to the place that's doing the plating. I guess they had some extra time yesterday to cut the laquers for a short record and this happened to be the only short record around. After a call to the pressing plant to let them know that the plates will be showing up I found out that I should have test pressings in about a week. More news to come...
March 09, 2006
The Coldbringer 12" has been sent to be mastered by John Golden, known for mastering such bands as Black Flag and Husker Du. There is a several week back-up there, so it's looking like it won't be mastered until mid-April. I'm hoping to have test pressings back by the end of April and the record done by mid-May (just in time for Chaos in Tejas). I'll post more as thing come together.
February 17, 2006
We finished the recording for the Coldbringer 12" last night. It sounds amazing and I can't wait for it to get pressed. The track listing looks like this:
Side
A
Metaphyical Ways
Divide And Conquer
Coming Home
Doomtown Now
Side
B
Lust And Ambition
Death Generation
No More Apologies
Live Fast, Die Young
I should be sending it off to get mastered within the next week and I'm hoping for everything to be done by April.
February 13, 2006
I just spent this past weekend in the studio with Coldbringer, and the recording sounds amazing. We will be going back in to do a little more recording and mix down this coming Wedneday. They've recorded 10 songs ( 9 originals and 1 cover), 8 of which will be on the 12" and 2 that will be the b-side of an upcoming single for one of the songs from the 12". It's also looking like there will be a 10 song CD version released around the same time as the single. More on this as in pans out.
January 4th, 2006
DeadIdeas is excited to be releasing the debut 12” EP for Coldbringer as it’s first release. Formed in the summer of 2002, Portland’s Coldbringer features members from such bands From Ashes Rise, Hellshock, Call The Police, the Del Toros, and Talk Is Poison. They play a style of hardcore that draws from influences like Naked Raygun, Leatherface, Hüsker Dü and the Wipers, but is all their own at the same time. Originally started as a 3 piece, and quickly finding a fourth member, they eventually became a 5 piece in the fall of 2003 after losing and replacing a bass player and finally finding a vocalist. After several months of practicing they were ready to unleash their wall of sound upon the ears of Portland in the spring of 2004, with a line up of John Wilkerson-vocals, Derek Willman-guitar, Justin Briggs-guitar, Jason Irish-Bass and David Wuttke-drums. They were soon playing shows around Portland on a regular basis. Soon after, they recorded a 6-song demo and found themselves getting offers for records. By the fall they were ready to record for a split LP (with Austin’s Storm The Tower) and a 7” EP, to be followed up by another 7” on DeadIdeas. They soon started to record for the first two records, but never finished the recording, due to a lack of funds. Then drummer David decided to move away from Portland. After some time of thinking about possible new drummers, they decided on Mary Esquivel from Portland band the Del Toros, and practicing resumed. Plans were being made to re-record with Mary, when Justin decided to move away as well, and they found themselves needing another member again. After some talking they asked friend Grant Kasten to fill the slot. By this time it had become apparent that both split LP and 7” they had planned to record for weren’t going to happen anymore. At this point the follow up 7” on DeadIdeas became a debut 12” EP. After a couple of months of practice with the new line up, they were ready to start playing shows again in the fall of 2005. The debut 12” is set to be recorded in February 2006 and should be out by April or May 2006
